How to Find Posting Rules Outside the Core Banking System

Follow posting behaviour across channel applications, interfaces, batch processing, configuration and ledger evidence before defining a migration scope.

General diagnostic guidance. Examples and questions do not establish the treatment or readiness of a particular client landscape.

Follow the event across boundaries

The core application is one place to look for financial behaviour. A business event can be enriched, aggregated, routed or transformed by channel systems, payment engines, interfaces, batch routines and manual processes before it reaches the ledger.

Build an evidence inventory

Begin with the event and the observed ledger result. Identify source records, authorised configuration, interface specifications, job schedules, reconciliations and process walkthroughs. Note which sources are available and which are missing. SME explanations help identify paths to test; they do not replace evidence of observed behaviour.

Trace forwards and backwards

Follow a sample event through the documented transformations to its expected posting. Then start from the observed ledger entry and seek the source and rule that explain it. Differences between the two traces identify specific questions about references, dates, aggregation, routing or missing events.

Record the dependencies as well as the rule

A posting file may also feed reports, allocations or operational reconciliations. Capture these consumers, their owners and their transition obligations. Absence from a single sample or schedule is not evidence that a component is unused.

Turn uncertainty into a bounded action

Keep unexplained paths visible, identify the next evidence required and assign an accountable reviewer. The result should inform a scoped test or architecture decision, with coverage limits stated explicitly.
